Auburn Baseball Takes Second Straight From Tennessee

KNOXVILLE, Tenn.- No. 11 Auburn rallied from a 4-0 deficit to score six runs in the final three innings to defeat No. 23 Tennessee, 6-4, at Lindsey Nelson Stadium, today. The win marked the seventh time this season that the Tigers have trailed after the seventh inning and came back to win. Auburn improved to 33-10 overall and 10-7 in the SEC, while the Vols dropped to 32-13 and 6-9 in the conference.

Auburn's rally started in the seventh as Mailon Kent reached on a two out error by Vol shortstop Stevie Daniels. Gabe Gross followed with a triple scoring Kent from first.

In the eighth, the Tigers benefited from two walks and a hit batter en route to a three-run inning that tied the game at four apiece. Dominic Rich's single to right field with two outs scoring Chris Beaird and Jonathan Schuerholz was the big hit in the inning for the Tigers.

Kent led off the ninth with a single, extending his career-best hitting streak to 19 games. Gabe Gross followed with a single, advancing Kent to third. Todd Faulkner then singled to shortstop, scoring Kent from third for the game winning run. Brett Burnham drove home Gross in the next at-bat on a fielder's choice.

Auburn struggled offensively until the seventh, managing just one hit in the first six innings. Rich and Gross each had two hits, while Faulkner extended his hitting streak to a career-best 15 games.

Brandon Mayfield (5-1) was credited with the victory, relieving starter Chris Bootcheck in the eighth. Colter Bean closed the door on the Vols in the ninth to pick up his third save of the season.

Tennessee's Brandon Crowe (2-4) picked up the loss, allowing four hits, three runs, two earned in 1.2 innings of relief.
