TUSCALOOSA, AL- Alabama scored four runs in the seventh and
eighth innings to defeat Auburn, 13-4, at Sewell-Thomas Stadium Sunday.
With the win, Alabama improved to 35-18 overall and 15-12 in SEC play
while Auburn fell to 38-15 and 15-12 in league play.
Auburn used seven pitchers in the game as Alabama totaled 11
walks and 11 hits. The Tide scored four runs in the seventh including
three courtesy of a three-run homer by Brent Boyd. In the ninth,
Alabama added four more runs, two of which came from bases loaded walks
and two more from a two-run home run from Ben King.
Auburn and Alabama were knotted at 4-4 heading into the sixth
before Alabama second baseman Sam Bozanich's single scored Scott
McClanahan from second base for what turned out to be the game-winner.
Auburn had tied the game at four with two runs in the sixth.
Catcher Donnie Streeter hit a one-out solo home run over the left-center
field scoreboard, to cut the lead to one. John Tyler followed with a
single and Jonathan Schuerholz reached on an error by Tide catcher
Kelley Gulledge. Tyler tied the game when Alabama shortstop Casey
Lambert committed a throwing error while attempting to turn a double
play.
Auburn reliever Brent Speigner (4-5) was charged with the loss
after allowing one run while facing two batters. After starter Hayden
Gliemmo was replaced after 3.2 innings, Auburn used six pitchers who
gave up 10 hits and 10 of the 13 runs.
Alabama's Jeremy Vaughn (3-1) earned the win after coming into
the game in the third inning. He allowed just four hits and two runs
while striking out two in 6.2 innings of work.
Auburn will conclude the regular season schedule next weekend,
May 14-16, when it host Mississippi State at Plainsman Park. Friday's
