AUBURN- Auburn junior first baseman Todd Faulkner was one of 13 athletes named to the third annual USA Today Baseball Weekly All-America College First Team, announced Wednesday. The team was selected by USA Today Baseball Weekly college writer Dana Heiss Grodin.
Faulkner, who was named a first-team All-Southeastern Conference selection this week, has posted one of the most remarkable seasons statistically ever by an Auburn player. The junior from Powder Springs, Ga., has tied or established five single-season records in 2000. Faulkner has broken the Auburn single-season marks for home runs (22), extra-base hits (47), runs batted in (96), total bases (188), and has tied school records in doubles (26).
Hitting .414 on the season, Faulkner is the nation's leader in runs batted in and is four shy of becoming just the fourth Southeastern Conference player to tally 100 or more RBI in a seasonl Faulkner has also posted an astounding .821 slugging percentage and is amoung 12 semifinalists for the Rotary Smith Award, presented annually to college baseball's most outstanding player.
Faulkner was one of four SEC players named to the first team. Joining Faulkner were RHP Kip Bouknight of South Carolina, C Brad Cresse of LSU, and 2B Chris Burke of Tennessee.
Faulkner is the second Auburn player to earn All-America honors from USA Today Baseball Weekly. He joins Tim Hudson who earned honors from the publication in 1997.
