AUBURN- The 19th-ranked Auburn baseball team received a bid to the NCAA Atlanta Regional, announced today by the NCAA. The Tigers (40-18) are the second seed in the regional and play No. 3 seed Stetson (46-14) on Friday, May 22, at 2 p.m. CT, at Russ Chandler Stadium on the Georgia Tech campus in Atlanta, Ga. Top-ranked Georgia Tech (47-14) is the top seed in the regional and will play fourth-seed Georgia Southern (38-21) at 6 p.m. CT on Friday.
The NCAA bid is the seventh time in eight seasons that Auburn has advanced to NCAA Regional competition. The Tigers are 29-17 in 12 previous regional appearances, which includes a 22-12 mark under head coach Hal Baird. Last year Auburn hosted its first NCAA Regional since 1978. The Tigers won the regional, defeating Tulane, 13-9.
The regional winner will advance to the Super Regional to be held June 2-4, with the eight Super Regional winners advancing to the College World Series, June 9-17. Auburn has advanced to four College World Series, including two under Baird in 1994 and 1997.
The winner of the Friday's games will meet on Saturday at 2 p.m. CT, with the losers of the Friday games meeting at 10 a.m. CT. For ticket information, call 1-888-TECH-TIX. Single-game general admission tickets for all sessions are available for six dollars.
