Tigers Drop First Game Of NCAA Tournament To Stetson

ATLANTA, Ga.- Two key errors by Auburn and a two-run homerun by Stetson's Frank Corr helped lead the 25th-ranked Hatters to a 9-5 victory over 19th-ranked Auburn. The Tigers will move into the losers bracket and play on Saturday morning versus Georgia Southern who lost to Georgia Tech, 11-9. Stetson took a 1-0 lead in the second inning with Jason Shipley scoring on an throwing error by Auburn. In the third inning, Auburn's John Tyler got on with a single. Tyler then went on to tie the game off a RBI single by Gabe Gross.

In the fifth inning, the Hatters scored three runs to take the 4-1 lead. Rusty Beale hit a double. Then Jeff Christy hit a single to score Beale. Frank Corr hit a single to bring around Christy, while Josh Laws scored on the Andy Wilson groundout.

The Tigers came back with three runs of their own to tie the at 4-4. Both Gabe Gross and Jonathan Schuerholz scored on a Hatter fielding error, while Todd Faulkner scored on a wild pitch.

Stetson scored two runs in the seventh inning to take a 6-4 lead over Auburn. Frank Corr hit a double then scored on a single by Geoff McCallum. Andy Wilson reached base on an error then scored on the groundout by Jason Shipley.

The Hatters picked up two more runs in the eighth and their last run in the ninth to take a 9-4 lead over the Tigers. The most damage coming off the two-run homerun from Frank Corr.

Auburn was able to cut the lead to 9-5 off Hayden Gliemmo's first homerun of the season.

Mailon Kent and Todd Faulkner both had three hits for the Tigers, while Dominic Rich had two RBI. Stetson's Frank Corr went 4-5 with three RBI including a double and a homerun.

Auburn starter Chris Bootcheck picked up the loss going 8.0 innings, while giving up 11 runs on 15 hits and four strikeouts. Stetson starter Lenny DiNardo got the win going 8.0 innings, while giving up four runs on 10 hits and four strikeouts for the win.
