Auburn Stays Alive In The Atlanta Regional Of The NCAA Tournament

ATLANTA, Ga.- Big games by Auburn's Gabe Gross and Todd Faulkner helped lead the 19th-ranked Tigers to a 11-5 win over Georgia Southern. Auburn advances in the loser's bracket and will get a rematch with Stetson. Airtime on the Auburn Network is approximately 5:45 p.m. and you can listen to the game live in our Live Audio section.

The Tigers took an early 3-0 lead in the first inning. Auburn sent eight batters to the plate in the first inning. Mailon Kent walked and scored on a Gabe Gross single. Jonathan Schuerholz singled and scored on a Todd Faulkner single, while Gross scored on a Dominic Rich single.

Auburn picked up a run in the third inning and two more in the fourth inning to take a commanding 6-0 lead over the Eagles. Brett Burnham's double scored Faulkner in the third and RBI singles by Gross and Faulkner capped off the fourth inning.

The Eagles cut the lead in half with three runs of their own in the fifth inning.With the bases loaded, J.R. Revere was hit by a pitch which scored Matt Herring. Then, Brett Griffin scored on a John Durik single.

Georgia Southern picked up two more runs in the seventh inning to cut the lead to one, 6-5. Matt Easterday's two-run blast highlighted the inning.

But that was as close as the Eagles would get. Auburn scored one run in the eighth and four more in the ninth inning to take the 11-5 lead and hold on for the win. John Tyler's double got the inning started and he eventually scored on Schuerholz's single. Gabe Gross knocked in Kent with his third hit of the day. Faulkner singled in Schuerholz for his third RBI, then Burnham hit a triple to score Faulkner.

Gabe Gross and Todd Faulkner both went 3-for-5 with three RBI apiece for the Tigers, while Brett Burnham had two RBI on 2-for-4 hitting, including a double and a triple. John Durik and Matt Easterday both lead the Eagles with two hits and two RBI with Easterday hitting a two-run home run.

Auburn starter Levale Speigner got the win going 7.0 innings, while giving up five runs on seven hits and four strikeouts. Georgia Southern starter Brett Lewis picked up the loss going 7.0 innings, while giving up six runs on nine hits and six strikeouts.
