ATLANTA, Ga.- In a shootout to the end, Stetson eliminated Auburn from the Atlanta Regional of the NCAA Tournament by defeating the Tigers, 13-10. Auburn ends the season with a record of 41-20. The loss marked the end of Hal Baird's successful coaching career at Auburn and the beginning of Steve Renfroe's.
Stetson came out of the gate aggressive and scored runs in every inning but the second and eighth. Lee Bagley led the way for the Hatters with four RBi and four runs scored, while going 4-for-6, including three doubles and a homerun. Frank Corr again feasted on Tiger pitching with three RBI and one run scored, while going 4-for-6, including two doubles.
Auburn tried to match the firepower of the Hatters, but came up just short. Mailon Kent led the way for the Tigers with six RBi and two runs scored, while going 3-for-4, including a double and a homerun. Gabe Gross chipped in with three RBI and one run scored, while going 3-for-5, including a homerun.
Auburn starter Hayden Gliemmo got the start for the Tigers. He pitched 4.1 innings giving up six runs on 10 hits and three strikeouts in a no-decision. Colter Bean, who got the loss, pitched 3.0 innings giving up four runs on four hits and two strikeouts in relief for Auburn.
Stetson sent out Charles Aulet who pitched 5.0 innings giving up nine runs on eight hits and three strikeouts in a no-decision. Andy Wilson, who picked up the win, pitched four innings giving up one run on five hits and three strikeouts in relief for the Hatters.
