AUBURN- Head football coach Tommy Tuberville and his staff welcomed 35 newcomers as the
Auburn first-year players reported to campus Friday afternoon. The group consisted of 20
scholarship players and 15 invited walk-ons.
"They look good and they look like they are in shape," Tuberville said. "We know what most
of them can do. But, we need to see if we have to change their position, if they can they pick it
up quick enough. I'm not going to take a redshirt off a player after their third or fourth game.
They're going to have to show me that they can participate in the first two games this year."
The newcomers' agenda for their first day included physicals, equipment issue, interviews
with the media and a team meeting.
The group will begin practice Saturday with a morning and afternoon session. The freshmen
will practice once Sunday and Monday.
