Auburn Football Practice Report

August 5, 2000

AUBURN- Auburn's newcomers received their first taste of college football as the group opened the preseason with two practices on the intramural fields Saturday. Head Coach Tommy Tuberville was pleased with the overall attitude as the newcomers went through drills with their position coaches.

"We have some guys in pretty good shape and some that will have to improve," Tuberville said. "We started doing some team work this afternoon. The players are a little more confused because we've added a lot of stuff. They're feeling their way around but that's part of it. Everything looks good. There is a lot of enthusiasm. I've been pleased with their attitude."

Tuberville cited the athleticism of the newcomers and noted that several players will have the opportunity to play when the Tigers open the season on August 31.

"We have a lot of tall, lean players that can run," Tuberville said. "We don't have a lot of really big, heavy players. We have a lot of athletic players. That's what you try to do, bring them in a put weight on them and try to get as much athletic ability and speed on the field as you can."

The newcomers will practice Sunday with a 5:00 pm session on the intramural fields. The group will attend church in the morning then participate in position meetings prior to the afternoon workout.

Auburn's veterans report to campus Tuesday. The first day of two-a-days is slated for Thursday, August 10 with practices at 5:45 am and 3:45 pm. All practice sessions until August 20 will be held on the intramural fields. They are open to the public.
