AUBURN- Auburn head football coach Tommy Tuberville was pleased with the work of the
younger players after the seventh day of two-a-days. The Tigers had a short morning walk-thru
before concluding the day with a physical two-hour session in full gear on the intramural fields
Wednesday.
"We had a good practice," Tuberville said. "Some of our young players are growing up.
They're learning. They may still do some things incorrectly, but at least they're making up for
mistakes by running hard to the ball."
Tuberville cited the play of redshirt freshman DeMarco McNeil at defensive tackle after
the afternoon session.
"DeMarco McNeil had a heck of a practice," Tuberville said. "He is going to have to play
hard for us to be successful. He is going to have to provide some leadership. Even though he is
only a redshirt freshman, there is going to be a lot on his shoulders since he has been here a
year."
Although Tuberville was pleased with the newcomers, he questioned the inconsistent play of
the quarterbacks.
"Offensively, we started out slow," Tuberville said. "I am a little disappointed in our
quarterbacks. We didn't practice very well early. Sometimes it looks like no one is trying to
make a move on Ben (Leard). When we did team work, they played a lot better. They made a few more
plays than they did earlier. We still have a long way to go at quarterback."
Auburn will practice twice Thursday and Friday at 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. At this time, the
Tigers will not scrimmage Saturday as originally scheduled.
Auburn's practices until August 20 will be held on the intramural fields and are open to
the public. Fan Day is scheduled for Saturday from 1-3 p.m. at Beard-Eaves-Memorial Coliseum.
