AUBURN- Less than a week from the 2000 season opener against
Wyoming, the Auburn football team went through a two hour and fifteen
minute practice in warm conditions on Friday afternoon. Auburn will
take Saturday off before final preparations begin on Sunday for the
opener on Thursday evening.
Auburn Defensive Coordinator John Lovett talked to members of
the media about the squads' work in preparation for the Cowboys.
"We had a pretty good practice today," Lovett said. "We
started out sluggish and I think they were anticipating the time off.
They finished up good and I was pleased with that."
Lovett also talked about the Wyoming offense and senior
quarterback Jay Stoner.
"I think (Jay) Stoner will be their go-to guy," Lovett said.
"He is the one with the most experience and they will feature the
offense around him. However, I know that they want to establish the run
and control the football."
Stoner threw for 1,859 yards and eight touchdowns as a junior.
He enters his senior campaign third on Wyoming's career passing yards
list and fourth on the school's career total offense chart.
Following Saturday's day off, Auburn will resume practice Sunday
beginning at 4:30 p.m. on the practice fields behind the Auburn Athletic
Complex.
