AUBURN- Afternoon thunder showers forced the Tigers to move Sunday's practice into the John H. Watson Fieldhouse for the last half of the session. Auburn practiced for two hours in full pads in preparation for Saturday's Southeastern Conference opener against the Ole Miss Rebels in Oxford, Miss.
Auburn offensive coordinator Noel Mazzone noted the Tigers' enthusiasm for their first conference game of the season.
"Ole Miss is one of the top teams in the SEC West and it's going to be a big challenge for us this Saturday," Mazzone said. "It was good to get on the field and get our focus set on the game."
Mazzone also noted the Rebels' speed on defense will present a challenge for the Tigers.
"They have great team speed. (Linebackers) Amzie Williams and Chad Cook did a great job last Saturday. I was also impressed with (defensive ends) Derrick Burgess and Jason Elam," Mazzone said. "Ken Lucas might be one of the top corner backs in the league. Most of those kids have been in that system for a few years and they really understand what to do and that allows them to play with reckless abandon."
The Tigers and Rebels kickoff at 6 p.m. in a game nationally televised by ESPN2.
