Auburn's Courtney Rose Named SEC Player Of The Week

AUBURN- Auburn senior Courtney Rose was named the Southeastern Conference Defensive Player of the Week following his performance in a 35-27 win at Ole Miss Saturday. Rose, who plays whip for the Tigers, registered seven tackles, a sack and an interception in the game.

Rose, from Town Creek, Ala., is the first Auburn player to earn SEC Defensive Player of the Week honors since Takeo Spikes earned the award in 1997. He is Auburn's second consecutive conference Player of the Week as Rudi Johnson garnered offensive honors after his game against Wyoming.

Rose's interception came midway through the fourth quarter and set up Auburn's game-winning touchdown. His sack came in the second quarter and forced Ole Miss into a punting situation, which Auburn converted to its third touchdown of the game.

Currently, Rose is second on the team with 11 total tackles, one sack (-11), one pass deflection and an interception.

Auburn faces LSU in the SEC home opener, Saturday at Jordan-Hare Stadium. The game will be nationally televised by ESPN.
