Bulldogs Defeat Tigers In Heartbreaker

AUBURN- Quarterback Matt Wyatt hit Matt Butler from 11-yards out with :31 seconds left to play to give the Mississippi State Bulldogs an 18-16 win over Auburn at Jordan-Hare Stadium Saturday afternoon. Auburn falls to 3-3 overall and 1-3 in the Southeastern Conference. The 13th-ranked Bulldogs improves to 6-0 on the year and 3-0 in conference play.

Auburn controlled both the momentum and the scoreboard for the majority of the game. The Tigers led 16-3 until the 2:28 mark of the game when Wyatt threw a 16-yard touchdown pass to C.J. Sirmones to cut the Auburn lead to 16-10. Damon Duval took a safety with :50 seconds remaining to trim the lead to 16-12.

After a scoreless first quarter, Auburn scored on a Jeff Klein 64-yard pass to Ronney Daniels to give the Tigers a 7-0 advantage. Auburn took a 10-0 lead to the lockerroom after a 19-yard field goal from Damon Duval with 3:03 in the second quarter. Duval would complete Auburn's scoring with field goals of 36 and 46-yards.

Auburn won the battle in time of possession holding the ball 32:37 to Mississippi State's 27:23. Despite an outstanding effort from the Auburn defense, Mississippi State outplayed the Tigers offensively with 362 yards of total offense. Auburn managed only 164 yards of offense. Wide receiver Ronney Daniels accounted for 113 of Auburn's yards.

Auburn plays again next Saturday as they host the Florida Gators at Jordan-Hare Stadium. Kick-off is still to be determined. It will be either 2:30 p.m. CT or 8 p.m. CT. Airtime on the Auburn Network is two-hours prior to kick-off.
