AUBURN- Florida dominated time of possession and got four field goals from Jeff Chandler in the first-half to jump out to a 19-0 lead en route to a 32-14 win over Auburn Saturday night at Jordan-Hare Stadium. Auburn falls to 3-4 overall and 1-4 in the conference. The seventh-ranked Gators are now 6-1 and 4-1 in the SEC.
Florida led 25-0 before Auburn got on the board with a Jeff Klein to Ronney Daniels touchdown pass at the 3:42 mark of the third quarter. The Tigers cut the Gator lead to 25-14 on another touchdown strike from Klein to Daniels, this one a 16-yard throw with 14:35 remaining in the game. Florida closed out the scoring on a Robert Gillespie one-yard touchdown run with just 2:59 left in the game.
The Gators racked up 499 yards of total offense, while the Tigers had 245 yards with most of it coming in the second half. Auburn managed only 54 yards in the first half of play.
Florida quarterback Doug Johnson had a big night completing 24-of-43 for 310 yards with a touchdown. Tiger cornerback Larry Casher picked off two Johnson passes returning one for 64 yards. After a difficult first half, Auburn quarterback Jeff Klein finished with solid numbers throwing 39 passes, completing 19 for 245 yards and two touchdowns. Klein also threw two interceptions.
Gator wide receiver led all receivers with eight catches for 127 yards and a touchdown. Auburn's Ronney Daniels led the way for the Tigers with six catches for 98 yards and two touchdowns.
Auburn takes next Saturday off before traveling to Fayetteville, Arkansas to play the Razorbacks. The game is set to kick-off for 6 p.m. CT with airtime on the Auburn Network at 4 p.m. CT.
