AUBURN- The Auburn Gymnastics (0-4, 0-2) team set a season-high as well as recording the fifth-highest team score in school history in a 197.000-194.175 loss to Alabama (8-1, 2-1), Sunday afternoon in Auburn. Senior Sarah Wentworth broke her old school bars record, 9.950, with a 9.975. In order to score a 9.975 a gymnast must receive a 10 from one judge. She also scored a season-high and fourth highest all-around mark in school history with a 39.300.
In the meet individual Tiger gymnasts set or tied 11 career-highs. This was the second meeting between the two schools this season, Alabama won the first contest 195.575-191.950, in Tuscaloosa.
The Tigers started out slow on vault in the first rotation. Sophomore Stephani Janes set a career-high as well as a team-high for the season with a 9.725, this placed her third overall in the meet. As a team the Tigers scored a 47.950.
Auburn picked up the excitement in the second rotation on bars, scoring the third-highest bars score in school history, 49.025. Wentworth lead the charge with her school-record 9.975 which was first overall in the meet, and freshman Cheryl Lancaster set a career-high for the third straight week with a 9.825. Sophomore Lori Bernia and freshman Mary Nell Pate also set a career-highs with a 9.800 and 9.750, respectively.
The beam caused some problems for the Tigers. Auburn was ranked 19th nationally on beam coming into the meet, but only managed a 48.100. Sophomore Sally Cantrell added to her season-high all-around score of 38.850, with a career-high 9.900 on beam, which placed her second overall. Wentworth also scored strong with a 9.875.
The true surprise of the meet was Auburn's performance on floor. The Tigers had been averaging 48.225 scored a 49.100, which is second highest in school history. Wentworth led the barrage of high scores with a 9.875, which placed her third overall. Following close behind was Janes and Pate each with a 9.850. Sophomore Missy Lauderdale scored a career-high 9.825.

The Tigers return to action next Friday night against the Florida Gators in Beard-Eaves-Memorial Coliseum.
