Auburn Falls To Top-Ranked Georgia, 196.425-192.100, Wentworth Wins All-Around For Second Consecutive Week

AUBURN- The Auburn gymnastics team fell to the top-ranked Georgia Gym Dawgs, 196.425-192.100, Friday night in Beard-Eaves-Memorial Coliseum in front of 3,264 fans.

Sarah WentworthSenior Sarah Wentworth won the all-around, scoring a 39.250. The Neosho, Mo. native has won the past two all-around titles.

The Tigers recorded a season-high on vault, 48,475, behind strong performances from freshmen Cheryl Lancaster and Mary Nell Pate as well as juniors Sally Cantrell and Missy Lauderdale. Lancaster and Pate each scored a career-high 9.675, but both had to be taken out of the meet due to injuries on beam and bars, respectively. Cantrell added a career-high 9.750, which added to her all-around total of 39.050, and Lauderdale also had a 9.750.

On bars the Tigers had to count two falls and scored a season-low, 46.725. Wentworth, the number one gymnast on bars in Region IV, finished third overall with a 9.850. Cantrell added a 9.725.

Auburn continued to struggle on the third rotation and had to count on fall on beam. Wentworth once again led the Tigers with a 9.875 pushing Auburn to a team score of 47.950. Wentworth's score was good enough for first place on beam overall. Cantrell and Jennifer Ross added strong scores, 9.800 and 9.750, respectively.

On floor the Tigers posted the sixth highest score in school history and the second highest this season with a 48.950. Wentworth led the charge scoring a career-high 9.900 and sophomore Stephani Janes added a 9.800. Ross competed strong posting a season-high 9.850.

The Tigers return to action next weekend as they travel to the state of Louisiana for two meets. First Auburn visits LSU on Friday night in the final SEC meet of the season for the Tigers.
