Wentworth Sets School Record In All-around, 39.450

BATON ROUGE, La.- In Auburn head coach Jeff Thompson's return to Baton Rouge his Tigers scored the fourth highest score in school history and a season high 194.375. Senior Sarah Wentworth reset her own school record with a 39.450 in the all-around to finish second.

LSU scored season-highs on all four events and won the meet, 196.950-194.375. Junior Sally Cantrell finished third scoring a 39.050 for the second consecutive week.

Wentworth had career-highs on vault, 9.750, and beam, 9.925 .

"They did a great job to come into a place where it is not easy for visitors to compete and scored the fourth highest score in school history" Thompson said. "It meant a lot to me even though the girls didn't know it. For Sarah to break her own school record on the road is an incredible feat."

Auburn started the meet out on bars and improved by just less than two points from last week scoring a 48.525. Wentworth won the event scoring a 9.925, which is the third highest score in school history. Freshman Cheryl Lancaster rebounded from an injury last week to score a 9.775.

On vault Missy Lauderdale and Wentworth scored a 9.750 to once again lead the Tigers, Stephani Janes were close behind with a 9.725. Auburn scored a season-high 48.525 as a team.

The Tigers scored the eighth highest floor score in school history with a 48.900 in the third rotation. Wentworth scored a 9.850 to lead Auburn and finish third overall. Cantrell scored a career-high 9.800 and Jennifer Ross scored a 9.800 for second on the team. After scoring season-highs on the first three events LSU held a 147.625-146.000 lead.

Auburn scored a 48.375 on beam in the last rotation, which included a fall. Wentworth scored a career-high 9.925 to win the event, it is also the second highest score in school history. Lancaster scored a 9.900 for second place in the meet and Cantrell added a 9.825.

The Tigers return to action on Sunday at Centenary at 2 p.m. (CST). The scores from the meet will be posted live at www.auburn.edu/athletics/gym/livestats.
