GAINESVILLE, Fla.- The Auburn gymnastics team finished sixth at the SEC Gymnastics Championships for the sixth straight year. The Tigers scored a 192.500, which is the third lowest total of the year. Junior Sally Cantrell was named to the All-SEC Team scoring a 39.225 in the all-around.
Alabama won it's fourth SEC Championship, third of the nineties, scoring a 197.200. Georgia 196.825, LSU 196.825 Florida 195.775 and Kentucky 194.600 rounded out the rest of the field.
After a first rotation bye the Tigers opened the meet on floor and scored a 48.925, which is the fourth highest score this season. Junior Jennifer Ross and freshman Mary Nell Pate led the team with 9.850's, Pate's 9.850 tied her career-high.
Cantrell scored a career-high 9.800 on vault to lead the Tigers to a 48.375 team score. Pate and Missy Lauderdale each scored a 9.700 for the Tigers. Auburn and Kentucky were tied at 97.300 after three rotations, which each team having a bye.
After a bye the Tigers struggled on beam scoring a 47.400, led by Cantrell's 9.800. Sophomore Lori Bernia scored a 9.775 and Pate added a 9.750. Auburn had to count two falls on the event.
Auburn continued to struggle as they went to beam, scoring a 47.800. Cantrell led the way with a 9.850, which was good for sixth overall. Cheryl Lancaster scored a 9.775 and Jennifer Ross scored a 9.750 to round out the scoring.
The Tigers will await scores from across the country to see if they will advance to the NCAA Regionals to be held April 1 in Tuscaloosa, Ala. If Auburn moves onto regionals it will be the second-straight appearance for the Tigers.
