AUBURN- Senior Will Swift, who has an impressive 71.46 stroke average for 13 rounds, has recorded a pair of runner-up finishes to lead members of the Auburn men's golf team in summer tournaments.
Swift tied for second with a 69-73-70-212 in the 33rd Spirit of America played at Burningtree Country Club in Decatur, Ala., July 2 and was the runner-up in the Birmingham National Invitational with a 71-73-71-215 at the Country Club of Birmingham (Ala.) June 25. The Selma native finished third in the Willow Point Invitational with a 72-73-69-214. He also tied for 23rd in the Southeastern Amateur with a 74-71-70-73-288.
"Will has had a very good summer," head golf coach Mike Griffin said. "He has posted some low numbers which is very encouraging. He will be one of our leaders in the upcoming season and this summer is a nice start."
All-American Kevin Haefner tied for seventh in the Eastern Amateur this past weekend with a 6-under 73-70-64-67-274 in Portsmouth, Va., and finished 23rd in the Monroe Invitational in Pittsford, N.Y.
Three other Tigers competed in the Spirit of America as redshirt freshman Alan Weant tied for seventh with a 67-73-74-214, senior Trey Henderson tied for 10th at 70-71-74-215 and sophomore Porter Smith tied for 19th with a 69-76-77-222. Henderson tied for 47th in the Southeastern Amateur with a 76-72-74-72-294 while Jonathan Dismuke tied for 67th with a 70-73-82-78-303.
