Amateur field at the par-71, 6887-yard Baltusrol Golf Club Upper Course
in Springfield, N.J., Monday.

"I am pleased with the way the I played," Haefner said.
"Making five birdies was great, but I didn't do as well as I

position."
Haefner made two consecutive birdies on the par-4 second hole
and par-3 third before bogeying the par-4 fifth and par-5 eighth. He
birdied the par-4 ninth hole to turn at 1-under 34. Two consecutive
birdies came on the par-3 15th hole and par-4 16thbefore bogeying the
par-4 18th.
Haefner tees off in Tuesday's second and final round of
qualifying for match play at 6:43 am Central on the #10 tee with Clay
Long and Henry Liaw.
The 312-player field will be reduced to the lowest 64 scorers
after Tuesday. The low 64 will advance to match play and all matches
are 18 holes except the 36-hole final match Sunday.
