Auburn's Kevin Haefner Loses In U.S. Amateur

SPRINGFIELD, N.J.- Auburn junior All-American Kevin Haefner lost 3-and-1 to Bob Gregorski of Cato, Wis., in the U.S. Amateur first round at the par-70, 7116-yard Baltusrol Golf Club Lower Course in Springfield, N.J., Wednesday.

The Pittsford, N.Y., native qualified for match play with a two round 1-over total of 142 while Gregorski qualified with a 4-over 145 total. Gregorski moves on to play Nick Watney of Dixon, Calif., a 4-and-3 winner over D.J. Trahan.

"This was a great experience for me," Haefner said. "I just wasn't at my best. I was just never able to get into a groove for whatever reason. I am looking forward to getting back to Auburn and getting the season started."

ESPN will air the U.S. Amateur from 2-5 pm Central Thursday and Friday while NBC has coverage Saturday and Sunday from 2-4 pm.
