Men's Tennis Wins Season Opener Over Troy State

February 9, 2000

AUBURN- The 22nd ranked Auburn men's tennis team opened up the season Wednesday afternoon with a 6-1 win over the Troy State Trojans at the Luther Young Tennis Center.

"It was a good effort for our first match, but we still have some things to work on," Auburn head coach Eric Shore said. "We were a little nervous at the start of doubles but things got better as the doubles went on.

"In singles, the guys need to understand that they have to play a full match to beat teams in the SEC. You can't fade in and out to be successful in conference play. But overall the match was a good start to the season."

The Tigers started off strong by winning all three of their doubles matches. In singles action Auburn won five out of the six matches, with straight set wins by Stephen Huss, George Matijasevic, Estevam Strecker, and Andre Boz.

The Tigers return to action against the Samford Bulldogs on Wednesday, February 16 at 1:30 p.m. at the Luther Young Tennis Center.
