Men's Tennis Defeats Samford For Second Straight Victory

February 16, 2000

AUBURN- The 24th ranked Auburn men's tennis team defeated the Samford Bulldogs 5-2 Wednesday afternoon at the Luther Young Tennis Center to improve their record to 2-0. Samford fell to 1-1 on the season.

The Tigers won five of the six singles matches, with each of the wins coming in straight sets. Auburn won only one doubles match, while Samford grabbed the win in the other two.

"They played better than we did in doubles, but we were trying out some different combinations," Auburn head coach Eric Shore said. "We didn't get nervous going into singles and were able to do a good job. We played tough."

Stephen Huss and Estevam Strecker each improved their overall record in singles to 11-6. Freshman Raitis Tukans won his first singles match in dual play to improve to 8-5 overall.

The Tigers return to action Saturday February 26 at 1:30 p.m. against South Carolina State at the Luther Young Tennis Center. Admission to the match is free.
