AUBURN- The Auburn men's tennis team, ranked 22nd, defeated South Florida 5-2 Saturday afternoon at the Luther Young Tennis Center. The Tigers improve to 5-0 on the season, while the Bulls drop to 3-9 overall.
"The 5-2 win is very deceptive," Auburn head coach Eric Shore said. "They have a good team and have had some guys hurt. The match could have gone either way but we hung in there.
"This was a good win to get us going into the South Carolina match on Monday. U.S.C. has a very good team."
Auburn started off the match by winning two out of the three doubles matches on courts one and two to win the doubles point. The Tigers went on to win four of the six singles matches, with two of the wins coming in three sets. Stephen Huss won the 83rd doubles match of his career, putting him only six wins away from the all time career doubles record at Auburn.
The Tigers next match is Monday, March 6 at 1:30 p.m. against South Carolina at the Luther Young Tennis Center. It is the first conference match for either team. Admission to the match is free.
