AUBURN- Auburn's soccer team continued its winning ways by recorded its first ever back-to-back
shutouts with an 8-0 victory over Nicholls State on Sunday afternoon at the AU Soccer Complex.
The Tigers (2-0-0) had never recorded back to back shutouts in the eight years of soccer
until this weekend. Auburn also blanked Alabama A&M 11-0 of Friday.
"This has been a goal for use since I have been here," said Auburn head coach Karen
Richter, who is two matches into her second season. "We are thrilled that it happened in the first
two matches of the season and we hope we can continue this pace."
Tammy Waine and Erika Schansberg led the way for the Tigers with two goals each. Waine
scored in the 17th minute and the 48th minute, while Schansberg scored in the 41st and 77th
minutes. Junior transfer Ginger Sellick scored the game-winning goal, her first AU goal of her
career, in the 8th minute. Niki Schier, Kellie Evans and Sandra Carnes also scored for the Tigers.
Evans also collected three assists.
Freshman goalkeeper Joell Giger earned the shutout with three saves.
The girl's played well through all the though conditions," added Richter. "We came out a
little slow, but got it going later on in the match."
Auburn allowed Nicholls State just three shots, while the Tigers took 27. AU led 3-0 at the
break and the match was delayed 15 minutes in the second half due to lighting.
The Tigers will hit the road for a weekend tournament in Clemson, S.C., next Friday and
Sunday. AU will battle UNC Charlotte on Friday at 3:30 p.m. CST and Dayton on Sunday at 11 a.m.
CST.
