CLEMSON, S.C.- Auburn's soccer team dropped its first match of the season, 3-1, to Dayton in the final match of the Clemson/Nike Tournament on Sunday afternoon.
Dayton (1-2-0) scored twice in less than one minute late in the second half to take the lead for good. Bridget Bushman scored the eventual game-winner in the 78th minute, while Missy Gregg added an insurance goal less than one minute later. Gregg also scored the Flyers first goal in the 30th minute to give Dayton a 1-0 lead which they kept until the second half.
Ginger Sellick tied the match for Auburn (3-1-0) with her second goal of the season in the 64th minute. Sellick scored on a cross from Kellie Evans from the right side.
Freshman Leslie Schoeplein picked up five saves in goal for the Tigers in her first career start. Dayton's goalkeepr, Stephanie Weisenfeld recorded 10 saves in the victory.
Auburn will travel to Birmingham next Friday to battle UTEP in the opening match of the UAB Tournament.
