ARLINGTON, Tex.- Auburn losses a close game in eight innings to the University of Tulsa
Hurricanes by a score of 3-2 in the 7th Annual University of Texas-Arlington tournament.
In Auburn's second game on Saturday, the Tigers would not go down easily. The game was
scoreless until the fourth inning when Tulsa left fielder Jessee Ayala scored on a wild pitch thrown by
Freshman Jennifer Joiner. A couple of batters later, Kayla Malone, who was pinch running for the pitcher,
would come home on a fielder's choice. Joiner left the game in the fourth with 6 hits, 2 earned runs and 3.1
innings pitched.
Auburn would get a chance to score in the bottom of the sixth, when Jen Kraemer and Marcella
Passarelli both scored on an error made by the center fielder, Jessie Smith. That would be the only error of
the game for either team but the Tigers were able to capitalize on it and stay in the game.
The game went to the eighth inning with the score 2-2. In the top of the eighth with Kerri Hasselbar
on second base, Tulsa was able to score the winning run off a sacrifice fly to center field by Sophomore
Jessie Smith. In the bottom of the eighth, the Tigers were not able to produce anything offensively. Auburn
only had one hit from Jen Kraemer in the inning and no one to cross home plate.
Freshman Jennifer Lofton got the loss and has a record of 1-1. Tulsa right-hander Krystel
Markwarot received the win for the Hurricanes.
The Tigers (4-2) will return home on Tuesday, Feb. 15, to play the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets
(2-0) at 1:00 pm at the Auburn Softball Complex.
