AUBURN- Auburn downed Louisiana Tech 4-3 in the first game and 3-0 in the second of a doubleheader at the AU Softball Complex. The wins improve Auburn's record to 15-8 going into SEC this weekend versus South Carolina. Louisiana Tech drops to 11-12 overall.
In game one, Ashley Moore was walked with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh inning for the game-winning run, scoring pinch runner Kim Freeland. Auburn scored one run in the first inning when Deni Zeigler singled up the middle to score Moore.
Louisiana Tech answered in the second inning when Shameika Cofer scored on an error, tying the game at one.
Auburn notched two more runs in the third inning on a RBI-single to left by Kimball Pratt. Jodie Van Ooyen was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded on the next at-bat, scoring Michelle Martin.
Louisiana Tech scored its final two runs in the sixth inning. Shameika Cofer doubled to left field to score Erica St. Romain, while Jennifer Zavala scored on a fielder's choice later in the inning.
Auburn recorded its seventh shutout of the season in game two. Jennifer Joiner (4-2) pitched the first four and two-third inning, with Jennifer Lofton pitching the final two and one-third innings. Joiner gave up three hits.
"Jennifer Joiner is getting better and better," Auburn coach Tina Deese said. "At the beginning of the season, all we asked of her was to pitch though the opposing team's batting order once. Today, she went through it two and a half times."
Jen Kraemer scored Ashley Moore on a sacrifice fly in the first inning. The Tigers added their final two runs in the fifth inning on a two-RBI single by Jen Kraemer.
Auburn opens up SEC play this weekend with a doubleheader versus South Carolina Saturday at one p.m. at the AU Softball Complex.
