Auburn Softball Plays One, Postpones One Due To Rain

BATON ROUGE, La.- Auburn softball lost 9-1 in a rain-soaked game one of a doubleheader at Louisiana State University on Saturday. Game two was rained out in three innings and was postponed until Sunday at 10 a.m. Game one, which was originally scheduled for 1 p.m. but was pushed back to 5 p.m. due to two separate rain delays, was called after six innings due to the 8-run mercy rule. Auburn's record falls to 21-11, 2-3 in the SEC and LSU is now 21-7, 2-1 in the SEC.

LSU scored three runs in two innings and three in the fourth to account for the bulk of its runs. Megann Steege and Stacey Newton each had RBI-doubles and Stephanie Hastings had a RBI-single for LSU in the second inning, while Ashlee Ducote's two RBI-double highlighted the fourth inning. Ducote finished 3-3 with three RBIs while Steege went 2-3 with two RBIs and Hastings went 2-2 with two RBIs. Auburn's lone run came on a solo home run by Junior Marcella Passarelli in the third inning. Auburn was limited to one hit by LSU pitcher Britni Sneed (8-5), who struck out eight in 4.1 innings pitched. Jennifer Joiner (4-3) pitched all five innings to get the loss for Auburn.

In game two, LSU used four singles in the first inning to build a 3-0 lead. Tara Asbill added a RBI-double in the third to increase LSU's lead to 4-0 before the game was called. It will resume Sunday morning at 10 a.m.
