INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.- Auburn swimming advanced three individuals to tomorrow's finals of the
men's 50m free. Aaron Ciarla, who swam for Mecklenburg Aquatics, finished fourth with a time of
22.36 while Bill Pilczuk followed in fifth place with a time of 22.46. Christian Hasbach, a trainee
with Auburn Aquatics, rounded out the top eight with a time of 22.71. Senior Greg Busse finished
tenth with a time of 22.77 to miss the final cut.
Kevin Clements just missed the Olympic team as he finished third in the 200 IM with a time of 2:02.55 just behind '96 400 IM Gold Medalist Tom Dolan and '98 NCAA 400 IM Champion Tom Wilkens. Clements made the finals in all three events he competed in at the trials. He finished fourth in the 400 IM and fifth in the 400 free earlier in the competition.
Annemieke McReynolds was AU's other finalist for the evening as she swam 2:29.54 for a fifth-place finish in the 200 breast.
In the men's 100 fly, Jeff Somensatto earned another attempt to make the team as he finished eighth with a time of 53.78 to advance to tomorrow's finals. AU's other two contender's, John Hargis and Andy Haidinyak finished tenth and 11th respectively. Hargis swam 54.25 while Haidinyak recorded a time of 54.30.
Day seven will consist of the men's 50 free and 100 fly finals and the women's 200 back and 800 free finals as well as the women's 50 free semi-finals. The meet will conclude on Wed., Aug. 16. Alternates and coaches will be determined following the meet.
