BIRMINGHAM- The Auburn women's volleyball team improved to 2-0 on the season with a 3-0 victory over UAB at the Big Four Challenge Saturday night.
Nicole Sandifer and Jaunelle Hamilton were named to the All-Tournament team after helping lead the Tigers to wins over the Lady Blazers and South Alabama.
"We went in with the intention to play consistent volleyball," head coach Kevin Renshler said. "We struggled a little against South Alabama on Friday, but we got it going tonight. We will continue to work on being more consistent and get ready for Tennessee-Chattanooga on Monday."
The Tigers did not lose a game for the second consecutive match defeating the Lady Blazers 15-9, 15-5 and 15-7. Jaunelle Hamilton and Brooke McCarley led the team in kills, recording 16 and 14, respectively. Traci Price had 42 assists for the Tigers in the match.
The Tigers began their match against the Blazers with a 15-9 victory in the first game. Brooke McCauley recorded five kills while Jaunelle Hamilton added four kills. Traci Price led Auburn with 11, assists in the win. The Tigers recorded five blocks to the Blazers one, giving them an early 1-0 lead in the match.
In the second game, the score remained tight as neither team led by more than two points in the early going. With the score 6-5, the Tigers reeled off seven consecutive points to take a commanding 13-5 lead. UAB briefly regained service but could not hold it as the Tigers claimed the last two points for the 15-5 victory. Price again led the team with 18 assists while Hamilton had 9 kills in the Tigers second victory in the match.
In the deciding third game, the Tigers jumped out to a 10-5 lead and held on for a 15-7 victory. Brooke McCarley led the Tigers with six kills, while Traci Price recorded 13 assists in the win.
Auburn will take on Tennessee-Chattanooga on Monday at 7 p.m. in Chattanooga.
