CHATTANOOGA, Tenn.- The Auburn volleyball team improved their season record to 3-0 with a win tonight against the Lady Mocs of Tennessee-Chattanooga. The Tigers swept the Mocs, winning 3 consecutive games on the Mocs home court.
Coach Renshler says of the win, "Chattanooga has a very good program. We were able to sustain our streaks longer than they were. We still have a long way to go on the precision of our defense, but our ability to block kept our momentum going, especially in games one and two."
The Tigers started out their third match of the season winning the first game by a decisive 15-2 margin. Auburn had five unanswered points to start the game off with, leading them to their first game win.
Entering the second game, the Tigers once again took the early lead and kept it throughout the game. Up 14-4 in the second game, the Tigers took the game point with a kill by senior outside hitter, Brooke McCarley.
In the third game, the Lady Mocs battled back, coming within one point of the Tigers' lead. However, this did not prove enough to overcome Auburn's winning momentum as the Tigers came away with a 15-12 win for the match victory.
The Tigers shut out the Mocs in team kills, with 45 for Auburn and 29 for Chattanooga. Jaunelle Hamilton walked away with 14 of those kills, while Brooke McCarley took 13 of them. The Tigers also overcame the Mocs in assists with 38 to their 19. Traci Price had 37 assists for Auburn.
The Tigers next match is against Colorado State in the Colorado State Classic on September 8th.
