AUBURN- Auburn University's 2000-20001 women's basketball schedule, highlighted by 15 home games,
was released Thursday.
The Tigers will play the second most regular season games in the school's history, beginning
with the season opener against Southern (Louisiana) in Beard-Eaves Memorial Coliseum on Nov. 19.
"We are very pleased with our schedule," said Tigers head coach Joe Ciampi. "We open with
five straight home games and then have a challenging schedule before we begin conference play."
Among the five straight games to open at home is the annual Lady Tiger Classic on Nov.
24-25. IUPUI, Charleston Southern and Bowling Green completed the field.
Auburn's first road trip will be Dec. 1 when they play in Tampa at the South Florida Classic hosted
by the University of South Florida. The Tigers will open the tournament with Ball State, while USF
will host Arkansas-Little Rock.
The Tigers then return home to face UAB, one of 10 NCAA Tournament teams from last season
on the schedule, and Mercer before heading to Puerto Rico. The three-day San Juan Shootout pits the
Tigers with Puerto Rico-Mayaquez, Nebraska and Arizona.
A game against Clemson in the SEC/ACC Challenge in Myrtle Beach, S.C., and a home CBS
televised game against Illinois in the Big 10/SEC Challenge in late December round out the
non-conference schedule.
"The stretch in late December when we face four straight NCAA Tournament teams will be a
big test of us," said Ciampi. "Those four games (Nebraska, Arizona, Clemson and Illinois) lead us
right into SEC play so it is important that we are playing well."
Southeastern Conference play will begin at home against Kentucky. Vanderbilt, Mississippi
State, South Carolina, Alabama, Arkansas and Tennessee will also visit Beard-Eaves-Memorial
Coliseum during conference play.
