BAD SAAROW, Germany- Auburn sophomore All-American Celeste Troche fired an even par 72
for her native Paraguay in Thursday's second round of the 2000 Women's World Amateur Team
Championship at the par-72, 5626-yard Sporting Club Berlin in Bad Saarow, Germany. The Asuncion,
Paraguay, native jumped from 29th to 11th place in the 120-player field with a two-day total of
3-over 145, six shots behind tournament leader Suzann Pettersen of Denmark.
Paraguay is still in 25th in the 40-country field with a 21-over 309, including a 10-over
154 second round score. The top two scores each day of the three member teams count towards the
team score. Troche's 72*145 led Paraguay as her teammates Maria Rocio Rocio and Julieta Granada
shot a pair of 82s for identical totals of 162.
"I felt very comfortable on the course with my ball-striking," Troche said. "I am happy
about making four birdies, including three straight down the stretch. I am in a good position in
the tournament, and we will just see how it goes Friday."
After double-bogeying the par-4 14th hole, Troche made three consecutive birdies on holes
15 through 17. She birdied the 11th hole en route to a 2-under 34 on the inward nine while
shooting a 2-over 38 on the front nine with bogeys at the fifth and ninth holes.
The United States fell from 21st to 26th with a two-day total of 22-over 310, including a
14-over 156 Thursday. Stanford senior Stephanie Keever shot an 80*155 followed by Arizona sophomore
Laura Myerscough at 78*157 and Stanford senior Hilary Homeyer at 80*157.
France leads with a 145*291, 18 shots ahead of Paraguay. Korea (148*292) and Brazil
(145*292) are tied for second followed by Sweden (148*293), Japan (147*293), Italy (148*294),
Chinese Taipei (145*295), The Netherlands (145*295) and Great Britain & Ireland (147*295). First
round leader Denmark fell to 10th place with a 154 for a 296 total.
The four round tournament runs through Saturday.
