Women's Tennis Falls To Florida State

AUBURN- The Auburn women's tennis team, who are ranked #44 in the latest ITA rankings, lost to #19 Florida State 6-3, out at the Luther Young Tennis Center. With the loss, the Tigers move to 2-1 while the Seminoles improve to 3-2 on the season.

"It was a very tight match against a very strong Florida State team. We played them tough throughout the entire match, but it was just a couple of points here and there that determined the outcome," Head Coach Troy Porco said.

Katia Illarionova started her first collegiate match by defeating Jessica Balbuena, 2-6, 6-1, 6-1, on court three. Lucy Altman improved her singles record to 3-0 by defeating Marina Raic, 6-2, 6-1, on court four.

In doubles action, Simone Jardim and Lucy Altman defeated Jessica Balbuena and Ali Weber, 8-3, for the Tigers only point in doubles.

"This match will make us better for the rest of the season," Porco said.

The Tigers host the Perdue Boilermakers Sunday, Feb. 13 at 10:30 a.m. at the Luther Young Tennis Cener. Admission to the match is free.
