It was almost 30 years ago, in the fall of 1969, when Neal Boortz heard a news bulletin. A highly controversial talk show host in Atlanta had committed suicide. Boortz, in a move that granered him automatic nomination for the Nobel Prize for callused opportunism, drove to WRNG to apply for the now-vacant position. Management told Boortz he could fill in for two weeks, until a real replacement arrived. He has been hosting talk radio in Atlanta ever since, a record unmatched in any major American market.
The Neal Boortz Show has been a consistent winner. Boortz's numerous awards include the Talker's Magazine designation as one of "The 25 most important talk show hosts in America" and "America's best male talk show host." His libertarian philosophy rankles conservatives, whi think he's too liberal, and liberals, who think he's too conservative. That suits Boortz just fine.
