# HoursWatch Privacy Policy _Last updated: 31 October 2026_ HoursWatch is a Chrome extension that shows you how much time you spend on websites. It is designed so that your data never leaves your computer. ## What HoursWatch records For each period you actively spend on a website, HoursWatch stores: - the website's **domain name** (for example, `github.com`), - the **start time, end time and duration**, and - a random internal identifier. It also stores your **settings** (such as theme and away threshold) and a cosmetic color assigned to each domain. ## What HoursWatch never records - Full page addresses (URLs), paths or search queries - Page titles or page content - Form entries, passwords or cookies - Anything from incognito windows (the extension is not allowed to run in incognito) - Your keystrokes or mouse activity. The extension only asks Chrome whether you are active, idle or have locked the screen. ## Where your data is stored All data is stored locally in your browser profile using Chrome's extension storage (`chrome.storage.local`). HoursWatch has no server, no user accounts, no analytics and no advertising. It makes **no network requests**, so your data is never transmitted, shared or sold. ## How the data is used Only to display your timeline, totals and history inside the extension, and to create a CSV file if you choose to export. CSV files are generated in your browser and saved to your computer by you. ## Why the permissions are needed - **tabs** — read the active tab's address so its domain can be recorded (only the domain is kept) - **storage / unlimitedStorage** — keep your history on your device - **idle** — avoid counting time when you are away or the screen is locked - **alarms** — keep the background process reliable HoursWatch requests no access to website content and runs no scripts on web pages. ## Your control - Pause tracking at any time in Settings or from the popup. - Exclude websites you never want recorded. - Delete all recorded data at any time in Settings → Data → Delete all data. - Uninstalling the extension removes all of its stored data. ## Children HoursWatch does not collect personal information and is not directed at children. ## Changes If this policy changes, the updated version and date will be published at this address, and the extension's version notes will mention it. ## Contact Questions or bug reports: hello@azeezv.me, or open an issue at https://github.com/azeezv/HoursWatch/issues.
