# About

The Iowa City Schools Board Archive is a citizen project to make the
public record of the ICCSD Board of Directors easier to read, search, and
cite. It was started by [Michael Parrott](https://github.com/b00mhauer)
in 2026.

## Why this exists

ICCSD's official board portal — Simbli eBoardSolutions — is fine for one
meeting at a time but painful to use across many meetings. You can't search
across agendas. Topic threads (the budget, the superintendent search,
boundary changes) span dozens of meetings and there's no easy way to follow
one. Decisions get buried in 200-page consent agendas. The PDFs are public,
but discoverability is poor.

This site is a working reference for those who follow the board's work
closely — parents, journalists, board candidates, district employees,
researchers — and a starting point for anyone trying to get the gist of
what happened.

## Roadmap

**Phase 1 — 2026 MVP (current).** Every public 2026 board meeting,
indexed by date, topic, and people, with direct deep-links to every
supporting document.

**Phase 2 — Backfill 2023–2025.** Same coverage for the three prior
calendar years. Topic pages get longer arcs and become more useful.

**Phase 3 — AI layer.** A separate, clearly-marked interface backed by
NotebookLM (or a similar tool) that lets users ask questions across the
corpus. Will be hosted at a different URL with strong "this is not an
authoritative source" disclaimers.

**Phase 4 — Ongoing maintenance.** Weekly or per-meeting updates during
active board cycles, with a public changelog.

None. This site is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by the
Iowa City Community School District. All primary sources linked from this
site are public records that ICCSD itself publishes on its board portal;
this archive only adds discoverability.
