The first version was published interactively. npm Trusted Publishing is now bound to this repository's `release.yml`; subsequent new version tags publish through GitHub OIDC. The first tagged workflow passed its checks and correctly skipped the already published version.

Release tags point at the exact source commit used to build the package. The bookkeeping commit that fills in a source SHA intentionally comes after that tag.
