Valheim dedicated server. Native Linux binary via SteamCMD - no Proton or wine. First boot downloads about 2GB and settles at about 2.1GB.
A password is required unless you set Public to 0. It must be at least 5 characters and it must not appear anywhere inside the server name.
There is no config file. Every setting here is passed to the server as a launch flag, so changing a field and restarting takes effect immediately, and nothing you edit by hand is ever overwritten.
Stopping saves the world, but only if the container is given time. Valheim saves on shutdown and has no other way to be told to save, so raise Unraid's container stop timeout to at least 150 seconds.

valheim iron gate viking survival dedicated server
###1.0.0 (2026-09-22)
Initial release.
- Valheim dedicated server. The game ships a native Linux server binary, so this needs no Proton or wine - SteamCMD installs the Linux depot and the server runs directly.
- A password is required unless Public is 0. The server refuses to start on a listed server without one, so this container checks the rules first and tells you which one you broke instead of leaving you to find it in the log. Minimum 5 characters, and the password must not appear inside the server name - that second rule catches people out.
- World Preset, World Modifiers and World Toggles expose the world modifier system that arrived with Valheim 1.0. A misspelled modifier stops the container with a message listing the valid values, because the server's own response to one is to ignore it silently and give you a normal world.
- There is no config file to seed, merge or overwrite. Every setting is a launch flag, and your world plus the admin, banned and permitted lists all live under one directory.
- Stopping the container saves the world - but Valheim has no RCON, no console and no remote save command, so the shutdown signal is the only save there is. Raise Unraid's container stop timeout to at least 150 seconds.
- UDP 2456, 2457 and 2458 are all published. 2457 is the one Steam's "Add a server" box wants, which is a perennial source of confusion.
--restart=unless-stopped
About 2.1GB once installed, from a 2GB download, so allow 5GB of free space for the world, backups and updates. Budget 3GB of RAM for an idle server and 6-8GB for a busy long-running world - this server's memory use grows over time, so a nightly restart is worth scheduling. The array is fine; a cache drive or SSD makes world loads and saves noticeably quicker.
