# WeatherNode Trademark Policy

This policy covers branding used with the WeatherNode project.

## 1. Ownership

“WeatherNode”, the WeatherNode logos, and related branding elements (including “Official WeatherNode”, “Official WeatherNode Community”, and similar source-identifying marks) are trademarks of CentauriPrime.

## 2. What the AGPL covers vs. trademarks

The WeatherNode source code is licensed under AGPLv3.  
AGPLv3 grants rights to use, modify, and redistribute code.

Trademark rights are separate from copyright/license rights.  
AGPLv3 does **not** grant the right to use WeatherNode trademarks in a way that implies affiliation, endorsement, or official status.

## 3. You may do this without prior permission

- Use the project name in factual statements (e.g., “fork of WeatherNode”).
- Reference WeatherNode for compatibility.
- Link to the official project and documentation.
- Use unmodified source code under AGPLv3 terms.

## 4. You may NOT do this without written permission

- Use “WeatherNode” as the primary name of a fork or redistributed product.
- Use WeatherNode logos, wordmarks, or visual identity for a forked distribution.
- Claim or imply your build, service, or community page is “official”.
- Use confusingly similar branding that may mislead users.

## 5. Requirements for forks and redistributions

If you redistribute a modified version:

1. Use a clearly distinct product name and branding.
2. Remove WeatherNode logos and official visual identity.
3. Prominently state that your version is an independent fork.
4. Do not present your community feed/page as the official WeatherNode community.

Suggested wording:

> “This project is an independent fork of WeatherNode and is not affiliated with or endorsed by the WeatherNode maintainers.”

## 6. Official community designation

The official community/stations feed and official project communications are those explicitly published by the maintainers via official WeatherNode channels and domains.
