Deploy the Unidesk Enterprise Layer Manager (ELM) (Nutanix AHV) Change the administrator password |
To get started with Unidesk, you will need:
Using this procedure, you will do a basic Unidesk ELM installation on your Nutanix AHV Server. Using this process you will create the new VM for the Unidesk ELM, and has 8 GB of memory and 1 VCPU with 4 cores.
Once you complete these steps, use the remaining sections to change the administrator password (strongly recommended), and configure more advanced options, such as Static IP.
Download the Unidesk installation package, Unidesk_install_pkg_4.x.x, from the Unidesk download site. This zip file contains two unidesk_elm_4.x.x.x.vhd files.
Unzip the Unidesk installation package, and place the two .vhd files on a file share that the Nutanix server can access.
Log into the Nutanix Prism console, where you will upload the Unidesk VHD disks, and then create a VM for the Unidesk ELM.
Select the Tools menu in the top right corner of the UI, and choose Image Configuration.
Click the Upload Image button, and name the disk.
Select the Disk Image Type.
Select the Upload a File option, browse to your file share, and choose the ELM Boot Disk. Wait for the upload to complete.
Repeat steps 2 - 7 for the ELM Local Storage Disk.
Select Tasks and make sure that for each of the disks, both the Image Create and Image Update tasks are complete. Once this is done, you can create the VM.
Select the VM tab on the top left dropdown menu, and click the Create VM button.
Complete the Name and Description of the new VM.
Set VCPU(S) to 1.
Set Number of Cores per VCPU to 4.
Set Memory to 8 GB.
To add the Disks to the VM, click Add new disk and choose type Disk.
In the Operation drop-down, choose Clone from Image Service.
In the Bus Type drop-down select IDE.
In the Image Box select the Boot disk that you uploaded, and click Add.
Repeat the above steps for the following disks:
Boot Disk: unidesk_nutanix-system.img
Repository Disk: unidesk_nutanix-repository.img
Add NIC by clicking on Add new NIC.
Click Save to complete dialog and create VM.
Power on the VM.
Ensure that you have waited for both tasks for each disk to be completed before attempting to create the VM.
The Unidesk Appliance Configuration utility lets you configure these settings. For details, click Manage the Unidesk ELM (virtual appliance) .
If you need to expand the ELM's local storage, see Manage system storage.
Once you're satisfied that the ELM is correctly configured and has the required storage space, you can log into the Unidesk Management Console (UMC), and begin creating your layers.
