# Commercial Use Request — Reciprocity

CompassionWare is freely offered as a contribution to the commons.

The materials in this repository are released under the license described in the repository's LICENSE file. Nothing in this document changes, restricts, or adds conditions to those legal permissions.

## An Invitation to Reciprocity

CompassionWare grows from a simple intention: to cultivate conditions in which wisdom, compassion, curiosity, care, and responsible participation may emerge.

In that same spirit, we invite reciprocity.

If something here is useful to you, your community, your research, or a noncommercial project, please receive it freely. That is part of why it is here.

If CompassionWare materials contribute to a commercial product, service, organization, or other revenue-generating activity, we respectfully invite you to consider giving something back.

This might take the form of a donation, contribution, collaboration, attribution, improvement returned to the commons, or another form of reciprocity that seems appropriate.

There is no obligation to do so.

The request is ethical and relational rather than legal.

Voluntary donations help support the continued development, preservation, and public availability of CompassionWare.

No donation is required to use the materials.

We are simply asking that when something freely given creates value, those who are able might consider allowing some of that value to nourish the garden from which it grew.

CompassionWare is interested not only in what we create, but in the kinds of relationships our creations make possible.

Reciprocity is one of those relationships.

A gift can remain a gift.

And sometimes the person who receives a gift chooses to become part of its continuation.
