--- name: product-prioritization description: Compare defined product opportunities against supplied outcomes and constraints, making uncertainty and decision-changing tradeoffs explicit. --- # Product Prioritization Clarify the choice, horizon and constraints that rule options in or out. The user owns strategy, targets, business facts and commitments. Inspect supplied evidence before asking; ask about unresolved product decisions that materially change the comparison. Use `product-discovery` when the underlying problem is still undefined. Put options at a comparable level using the consumer's domain terms. Include maintaining the current experience when meaningful. If options address different problems or users, identify that before ranking them. A small learning slice can be a useful alternative to a full feature commitment. Choose criteria relevant to this decision: customer outcome, affected users, evidence confidence, effort evidence, timing, dependencies, risk or reversibility. Use weights only when supplied or agreed. Do not impose a named scoring model or invent reach, impact, cost, revenue, effort or confidence values. Missing inputs in a requested numeric model remain gaps. A range must have an evidential basis; otherwise use a qualitative comparison. Compare options consistently, keeping assumptions separate from facts. Retain negative and disconfirming evidence. Explain which constraint or tradeoff drives the recommendation and whether plausible changes in uncertain inputs would change it. A conditional choice or deferral is appropriate when the evidence cannot distinguish alternatives. Identify the observation most likely to resolve a consequential uncertainty. Use `product-experiments` for a falsifiable test, or `product-requirements` when the direction is settled. Product selection does not establish technical feasibility, staffing or implementation dates; request those from the owner when a commitment depends on them. Return the decision and desired outcome, comparison with evidence and limits, recommendation, sensitivity and unresolved choices. Completion means the owner can assess why an option is preferred and what could reverse that judgment. Backlog execution belongs to Project Management.
