# Trademark Policy CrewHaus is an open-source project licensed under [Apache License 2.0](LICENSE). The Apache-2.0 license covers the code; **it does not cover the project's trademarks**. This document explains how you can — and cannot — use the CrewHaus marks. ## The marks The following are trademarks of Max Meier (operating as StudioMax — "we"/"us"/"our" in this document): - The word marks: **CrewHaus**, **Crewhaus Factory**, **Crewhaus Cloud**, **Crewhaus Forge**, **Crewhaus Hub** - The logo (the house outline containing a terminal `>_` prompt, in any color) - The combined word + logo lockup For brevity, this document refers to all of the above as "the CrewHaus marks" or "the marks." ## What you can do ### Refer to the project by name You can describe, link to, blog about, teach, tutorial, demo, or otherwise refer to CrewHaus in any context — talks, articles, documentation, marketing materials for your own product, social media — as long as you're accurately describing CrewHaus. Examples that are fine: - "We use CrewHaus to compile our agent specs" - "This integration works with CrewHaus Factory ≥ 0.2.0" - "Compatible with CrewHaus Cloud" - "Powered by CrewHaus" (with link) - A tutorial titled "Building a Slack bot with CrewHaus" ### Build on the open source code You can fork, modify, redistribute, and build commercial products on the CrewHaus open source code under the terms of Apache-2.0. The license is permissive; the code is yours to use. ### Use the logo to identify CrewHaus You can use the CrewHaus logo to identify CrewHaus in your materials — e.g., a logo grid showing "tools we use" or "integrations supported" — as long as it's clearly identifying CrewHaus and not your own product. ### Make a fork-specific name If you fork CrewHaus and ship a modified version, you can use a name that *references* CrewHaus to be clear about origin — e.g., "AgentForge (a CrewHaus fork)" or "MyTool, based on CrewHaus" — as long as the fork's name is clearly distinct. ## What you cannot do ### Use the marks for your own product or service You cannot: - Ship a hosted service, commercial product, or platform under the CrewHaus name or marks. The names "Crewhaus Cloud" and "Crewhaus Forge" are reserved for our hosted products. - Use the CrewHaus logo as the logo for your own product. - Use a name confusingly similar to CrewHaus marks — "CrewHaws," "CruHaus," "Crew House," etc. — for a product in the agent / AI tooling space. - Sell a "CrewHaus implementation" or "CrewHaus support" service under names that suggest official endorsement. ### Imply official endorsement You cannot: - Use "Official," "Certified," "Verified," or similar in connection with CrewHaus marks without our explicit written permission. - Use the CrewHaus marks in a way that suggests we partner with, endorse, sponsor, or are affiliated with your product or company. - Use CrewHaus marks in domain names you control (e.g., `crewhaus-pro.com`, `crewhaus.ai`, `getcrewhaus.ai`). - Apply for a trademark on a CrewHaus mark or confusingly-similar mark. ### Modify the logo You cannot: - Change the proportions, colors, or composition of the CrewHaus logo - Combine the CrewHaus logo with other marks in a way that creates a new combined mark - Animate the logo in ways that misrepresent what CrewHaus is ## Use of CrewHaus marks in fork names We allow forks. But if you build something significantly different — a service, a different category of tool, a proprietary product — please use a name that doesn't lead with the CrewHaus marks. Acceptable: "AgentBuilder (fork of CrewHaus)," "Foundry-Pro," "MyTool" (with a CrewHaus attribution in the README) Not acceptable: "CrewHaus Pro," "CrewHaus Plus," "CrewHaus for Enterprise," "Open CrewHaus" ## Crewhaus Cloud is exclusive The product names **Crewhaus Cloud**, **Crewhaus Forge**, and **Crewhaus Hub** (along with similar variants) are exclusively reserved for our hosted products. Anyone shipping a hosted service under these names — paid or free — without our written permission infringes on our marks. This is true regardless of what the open source license permits in terms of running the code. The Apache-2.0 license covers the code; the trademark covers the name. You can host the code; you can't call your hosted version "CrewHaus Cloud." ## Logo files Approved logo files are available at https://crewhaus.ai/brand (once the website is live). The files include: - The mark in mint on near-black (primary) - The mark in near-black on white - The mark in white on transparent - The horizontal lockup (mark + wordmark) - Favicon variants When using the logo: - Maintain clear space around the logo equal to half its height - Don't recolor it outside the approved palette (mint, black, white) - Don't rotate, skew, or distort it - Don't add effects (drop shadow, glow, gradient) that aren't in the approved set ## Reporting trademark abuse If you see someone using the CrewHaus marks in a way that violates this policy, please email **trademark@crewhaus.ai** with: - The URL or screenshot of the use - Why you believe it violates this policy - (Optional) Your contact info so we can follow up We will investigate and, where appropriate, send a cease-and-desist or take other action. We try to be reasonable and proportionate — most issues are misunderstandings rather than bad faith. ## Asking permission For uses not covered by this policy, email **trademark@crewhaus.ai** describing what you want to do. We're often happy to grant specific permissions for things like: - Community-organized CrewHaus meetups or conferences - Educational content with the CrewHaus name in the title - Compatible-product certifications - Co-branded materials with explicit partner relationships ## Why we have this policy We're an open source project that plans to run a paid hosted product. The open source code is yours; the brand identifies us. Trademark protection is what would let us run that hosted product without competitors copying the brand identity and confusing customers. It also protects users of the open source from being misled by lookalike products. We try to err on the side of permissiveness. Most reasonable uses are fine. The policy exists to prevent specific harms: brand confusion, false endorsement, and competing hosted services using our name. ## Changes to this policy We may update this policy. The current version is in this repository at `TRADEMARK.md`. We will note major changes in `CHANGELOG.md`. --- *Adapted from the [Apache Software Foundation Trademark Policy](https://www.apache.org/foundation/marks/) and the [Mozilla Trademark Policy](https://www.mozilla.org/foundation/trademarks/policy/).
