  "notes": "The introduction to this piece reads: \u0027A Manx Version of Wordsworth\u0027s \u2018Goody Blake and Harry Gill\u2019 edited by C. I. PATON. The following Manx version of a poem by William Wordsworth is taken from a manuscript formerly in the possession of Dr. Clague of Castletown. It was given to the Library of the Manx Museum by the late Archdeacon Kewley (MS. 429/8A). The name of the translator is, unfortunately, not recorded, but his work is regarded as a fine example of nineteenth-century Manx Gaelic. Indeed it is a considerable improvement on the prosaic original of the famous poet. The latter is not printed here as it is readily available in Wordsworth\u0027s Collected Poems. The story of Harry Gill is based on an incident recorded by Erasmus Darwin, c. 1790 [Erasmus Darwin, \u0027 Zoonomia,\u0027 3rd edn. IV, 68.], to illustrate the effects of imagination.
