The real shame about a game like EQ is that once it's gone no one can play
anymore. Guess it's one of the drawbacks to massively multiplayer games...
I hope it isn't dying any time soon.

at the same time, fennin has this because the new people joining the game
see fennin with the highest amount, and not understanding how the game
works....they head to where the most are naturally. then they get a lil
higher....dont want to lose the character, and they are then stuck. They
have no way currently to change to another server, and after a while of
beocming frustrated LEAVE the game. Fennin has a constant flood of people
in almost ALL zones. If someone finds something new, a new spawn point
which is decent, a new piece of EQ, etc....people FLOOD that zone. About
the only zones/areas I see uncrowded in EQ are zones/areas that I get
absolutly NO exp from....none what so ever in my currently lvl. Befallen
is even overcrowded (i've seen 60 people in the folks) Unrest commonly has
60 people in it aday...most bitching about stealing kills. I'm actually
beginning to despise playing EQ because of this fact myself. You cant go
somewhere with friends and have fun because when you do, you find people in
that spot you guys planned to hit, and if you try to join, they bitch at
you. When people start to leave, and you start seeing websites posting how
bad it is....more and more often....you'll see an outflow of people. How
many people have you all seen leave Fennin, or any high lag server due to
frustrattion? My bet would be the same amount as the new people you've seen
coming in.

I disagree, its not like fennin has 1900 people and all the other servers
have less than 1000 people on it. 90% of the time all servers are
ranging from 1400-1900 people on it. Check the totals next time you log
in to play.

AC is UO with more confusing faction and worse spell system. I for one am
not looking forward to it. And yes I have struggled through it since the
first open beta.

Asheron's Call isn't really Microsoft, it's Turbine's. Microsoft is just
the publisher, Turbine is making it. And it's not all that bad they are
still working on it. Give it time don't judge it till it's released.

Actually, there's not much else they're working on, other than
stress-testing and zone population, that was in the letter I got when I was
accepted into the 2nd phase of the beta. They're just doing minor tweaking
here and there to fix bugs and make sure balance is right (something EQ
should have paid more attention to in beta perhaps?), but they've said they
don't have very much left to do. I will for one say that when I tried it, I
played for maybe about 3 hours total before I got totally disgusted with the
clunky interface, not to mention I'm not a great fan of that style of
gameplay. *shrug* Just figured I'd throw out what MS/Turbine has said (and
some of my opinions ^_^ ).

You hafta connect through Sonys Station for EQ, so either way you have to go
through a gaming type zone. Maybe AC's is a lot different but by the time
you get to the character select screen on EQ I could've been playing AC for
2-3 mins. Both are good games, everyone whined about how EQ's interface and
all that, AC's seems to be better yet I've read in a few places ppl are
saying it's worse. I don't find AC hard to play at all, it's easy to learn,
have pretty good graphics, gameplay is easy and I think AC feels more like a
real RPG then EQ does on how they handle skills and all that.

Everyone should make a character on the test server. My group of 5
were the only people in Befallen the other day. That's right, just 5
people in the entire zone. I can't count the number of times I have
been the only person in freeport or Rivervale. Last night we were the
only ones in Erudia, and likewise the only ones in Kerra Isle. (not
wisp isle).
A lot of Test regulars don't want more people. Me, I welcome it.
Sometimes it's hard to find a group. Sure test may be somewhat
unstable, but we get all the latest patches, and in the evenings its
fairly reliable. We deal with it. But we are a happy lot, and we
just sit back and laugh at you people that have to deal with camping
issues, or kill-stealing, or lag.
Heh.
Oh, to get into the test server, run testeqgame.exe, I think. It's a
different executable. At most, there are a like 250 people. A word
of warning, though, Race War is being tested, but only a few people
are participating in it.

From what you say, I imagine that you have not played in any other universe.
Let me tell you that compared to some other universes (and one comes to
mind) EQ is extremely well balanced and fun to play. No, in it you can not
get all the super gear at level 1. Thank the gods for that.
Personally, I give the game 3-4 years(at least). Ohh, I dont expect to see
the same number of people next year and the one after. Most likely there
will be a syphoning from other games but I dont see it as dying anytime
soon.
As for another comment somewhere else about Fennin being overcrowded. I play
on Cazic Thule and find it is fairly decent most places. There are a few
zones where all the jerks go to and I keep away from those. But there are
also some where people are extremely decent and helpful. What I have noticed
is that power gamers seem to generally belong to the first category.
Well, that was my 2cp worth. And now let me get my fire suit as protection
for my last paragraph <G>

The real shame about a game like EQ is that once it's gone no one can play
anymore. Guess it's one of the drawbacks to massively multiplayer games...
I hope it isn't dying any time soon.

I'm glad you liked it. Personally, I lasted about 3 hours the first time
and maybe another additional 4 hours total. I made level 5 in no time flat
and found the game too easy and WAY too boring. The spell system, imho, is
HORRIBLE.
