Damn, you're right. Hm. This is suddenly a much tougher choice...
I envy those wizards whose obvious choice is evocation!
Since buffing is usually done at leisure, between battles, speed is not
important, although mana cost is; it's annoying to buff your team and then
have to med for a while, when they're rarin' to go.
Still, it looks like alteration is the the thing to specialize in. Faster,
less-disrupted, lower-mana emergency heals during battle would help my team
more than anything else I can think of.
There are a few other useful alteration spells, like the Root/Enstill
spells, and the Lull/Soothe spells. And all the Cure/Counteract spells, for
poison and disease, are alteration. And the Yaulp series. Still, it's
unfortunate that the most important cleric spells seem to fall into two
different categories, and we can only specialize in one.
