Subject: Re: EQ - worse rpg ever?

As an avid role-player myself, I am inclined to agree with you. I've
not yet tired of EQ. I'm playing on the test server, and I think it's
probably different there, only because there are so few players on it.
There's a little bit more of a sense of community. I think the reason
it lacks the kind of depth you seek isn't a matter, so much, of a lack
of desire on the part of Verant to put it in there, but a lack of
technology. For each inn to be truly unique and exciting would
require a tremendous amount of data. The game would come on DVD not
CD and that's just not feasible yet. Another thing that kind of
annoys me is how expensive everything is. I think it would neat if I
could get my party together and go to the inn and get drunk. But as
a cleric you think I can afford that? Hell no. I think players
should start with a little bit of money (maybe make it
non-transferable until level 2 or 3 to prevent abuse) I don't know...
I mean, it's nothing for a first level cleric to afford chain mail
in AD&D, I don't know why that should be so impossible here. Just
make it not as good as it is.
I see your point, but I just don't quite think the technology is
there yet. But as an AD&D DM there are a lot of things that I think
they could have done differently and made it a little better still.
